Nice blog...keep adding more lessons. Quick question that I ask all tabla/dholak players (I play dholak, but by my personal training only, not by taals/bols. I am starting to learn the bols though):
When you accompany a song, do you think the bols in your head, or just start playing with the hands?
@rohit wason: i just play what i deem would sound appropriate with the song.. some bols sound better played slowly, so Id use them with slow songs. But i find switching between bols during the song, or adding different kinds of variations what really spices up the song. But its best to stick to a pattern. By that i mean, to stick to a same set of bols/variation each time an air is sung/repeated. It also gives the impression that you know what you're playing, and not just playing random bols in my opinion.
